It's tough for Australia to set fresh records.

The top summits have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the record chasers, are the only things left for a team that has accomplished all there is.

It needed up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the pitchers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It is hard for their batters to maintain a record if not provided the opportunity.

Finally, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy being given a chance to produce her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the young family member of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have resulted from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the case for final game tension. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was far harder to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in training, it has been a challenging time because it seemed I've had no rhythm whatsoever," stated Healy.

"But once you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts take over and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her major advantage - and an invaluable trait in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the right-hander was underway.

"A chance to go out there and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

When she was removed Australia needed 66 more at run per delivery - an unconquered height now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the belief to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, should it happen, we are confident we can succeed."

That comment will be the last rival teams at this tournament should hear.

During the last week a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this victory coming after success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a significant event.

So great is her will, she subsequently stated she wanted to have participated through the pain.

But while she later admitted those fitness problems have postponed consideration of ending her career, this tournament is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as leader.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
